Getting
Your Bank to Help
Some universities have
allotted funds, through affiliate banks, to help students
who would otherwise find
it difficult to enter
or remain in higher education. Students are allowed up to £4,000
in bursaries and scholarships without having your student support
reduced in any way.
Learning Funds
Some banks offer
a Learning Fund to assist students who are in financial
difficulty. All students
may apply for help with living expenses and costs incurred
due to course requirements including travel, accommodation,
books, course equipment, and childcare. These awards are
in the range of £300 to £1,000 depending on financial
circumstances. Interested applicants must already have applied
for their full yearly student loan entitlement before actually
applying to the Learning Fund.
Charitable Funds
A
couple of universities manage a charity fund design ed
to assist those experiencing financial
difficulties. These charitable funds allocate grants
normally not exceeding £500 for those deemed to be in need
of help with maintenance. Priority is given to students
who
are not eligible for the Learning Fund and graduating students.
