Online
banking security
Online banking is usually set-up to be quite
secure. The bank makes sure of this, as security is vital
to the commercial acceptance of their online services, and
to the health of their business as a whole.
One popular method
of assuring secure online access is to provide customers
with a special PIN or access number. This is verified
as required through personal information that you supply
and through a password that either the bank has supplied
you in
advance, or a password that you specified when setting up
your online account.
A number of online banks are also applying
an extra layer of security through Site Certificates. Basically,
these are
unique
pieces of code (like the digital equivalent of watermarks)
that the bank provides you with to install on your computer.
The Site Certificate is required to be present on your
computer every time you access your online account, although
you will
still be asked to log in and give your username and password
as a standard security procedure. |
