Preventing credit card fraud...
Here are important tips for fighting off credit card
fraud:
- Keep
your card always within your sight when paying for something public.
Some criminals “double
swipe” credit cards even in shops and restaurants, making
an extra scan after the normal transaction goes through in order
to “clone” your credit card.
- Thoroughly destroy
carbon copies from purchase receipts; carbon copies have enough
of your credit card detail for criminals to use the information
for fraudulent purposes.
- Check your receipts to verify you haven’t
been overcharged for any purchases you made.
- Never write down
your PIN somewhere or tell anyone what it is. That is the only
way you can be sure that this crucial bit of information
is not leaked out anywhere.
- For shopping online, try to avail
of a credit card with specific protection against online fraud.
Also, don’t take any
chances by submitting transaction details if you’re
not sure the connection is secure (i.e. look for the small
padlock icon on your browser window).
- Avoid giving credit
card information over wireless devices such as mobile
phones and Bluetooth devices; their range of broadcast
may be scanned by someone with the intent to grab such information that
passes their attention.
